Apprentice of the Year Awards 2015

Nikken Kosakusho Europe Ltd. are extremely proud to announce the outstanding achievement of one of our next generation of talented engineers, Jonathan Watson.

Jonny was crowned winner of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Maintenance Apprentice of the Year Award, beating off competition from candidates at Rolls-Royce and Technicut. In addition to this accolade, he was also shortlisted as a finalist in the Academic Achiever of the Year Award – demonstrating his dedication to becoming a highly skilled engineer.

Followers of Nikken on Social media may be familiar with Jonny as the pilot and cameraman of the drone missions posted on YouTube showing the progress of the new Nikken R&D facility based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, but those skills are just the tip of the iceberg, as was proved at the AMRC Apprentice of the Year Awards on 11 March 2015.

Jonny began his career working at Nikken as a warehouse operative, but after two years being surrounded by Nikken precision products he decided to follow his lifelong interest in engineering and took the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship in engineering maintenance within the service department at Nikken.

Speaking about his role at Nikken, Jonny said “I find maintenance a really rewarding job as I enjoy problem solving, this motivates me to work hard and I have received great feedback from my colleagues and managers”

Jonny intends to continue his personal professional development by progressing to a foundation degree and maybe a full degree in future. We are all extremely proud of Jonny’s achievements and he is proving himself to be a role model and inspiration to all future Nikken apprentices following in his path, well done!
